So lately there have been tons of ways to donate to Susan G. Komen's Race for a Cure and Breast Cancer reasearch which is amazing! It's become the cool thing to do - donate to breast cancer research. What the media and general public tend to forget are all the other types of cancer out there...
It's cool to donate for Breast cancer because half the population has boobs... Save the Ta Ta's and whatnot. My mother is a breast cancer survivor so don't take this blog the wrong way. I think it is amazing the amount of support and research that has been done to save so many lives from being taken by such a horrible disease.
CANCER IS EVERYWHERE though. There are MANY DIFFERENT FORMS that affect EVERY ONE OF US in one way or another... Everyone knows someone who has been affected by this horrible disease. I really wish that the media would push to donate towards the American Cancer society so that ALL types of cancer victims can have the support they need.
Blood cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma are the least researched cancers out there. Lung cancer is the second highest killer among cancers. EVERYONE can be affected by these diseases. Cancer can affect all races and religons and ages.
I just ask that there becomes more awareness among all people about how this horrible disease destroys life.

Redskins
I LOVE the Washington Redskins. No question about it, that time of year is my favorite. My little brother is a skins fan as well (mom and dad are raising him right :-) ). He got chosen to go to Chris Cooley's football camp from some raffle through the Redskin's organization. This camp has about 320 kids in it and and it is run by a ton of local football coaches. He did some defensive drills and then played 7 on 7 a the end. What was really cool though was the awards, typical camper of the day, that were awarded at the end of the day. There were three different group, seperated by age, and there was a camper of the day from each group. At the beginning of the day, Cooley explained what he was looking for from the camper of the day. The usual good sportsmanship, hard working, good attitude athlete. Each group had a child awarded, but the Cooley brought out another award.
It was the Phillip Post II award. Phillip POst was killed in a car accident last June and he was a lifetime Redskins fan. His family donated enough money to allow 17 kids to attend the camp for free. An amazing way to memorialize him if you ask me. I've attached a link so ya'll can check it out.

Imagine...
So I'm going to try this blogging thing, probably for the fourth time. Maybe this time I'll keep up with it. I always feel like I have things to share but I can't seem to take the time to write them down.
I was at church the other day and I heard this passage:
Romans 5: 1-5
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
The part that stuck out to me most was that hope does not dissapoint. It's amazing what people these days are going through, war, famine, genocide, illness, etc. Through all of this there are amazing people out there who are working to make the world a better place and to make a dfference. Their hope in spite of all the bad things in this world, in and of itself is inspiring.
What makes them want to work to make things better when it seems hopeless? If it seems like there is no end in sight, what's the point? The point is that there are people out there that are affected by the work that is being done. The mother who is able to feed her child for one more day. The man who is able to get work and support his family. The elderly who isnt lonely for that hour they are visited. The child that smiles because they are able to play and forget all their troubles.
Just think, if everyone gave one hour of their time or performed one act of kindness, imagine what this world would be like. It's the little battles that we need to look at and observe everyday. There IS kindness in this world and there are people who are willing to help, just open your eyes.
In everyone there is hope that this world can be better. Why else would people do the things they do? God gave us this hope and it will NEVER dissapoint.
Hope keeps me going.
