So I just got back from being at the beach this past week. I have to say that last week may have been the most relaxing week of the year thus far. That feeling is what I had hoped would carry me through the next couple months was effectively removed by work when I went back this morning to boxes piled haphazrdly around a foreign space two floors higher than I had been previously. Half of my day was spent reorganizing and putting out fires from me being gone for the previous two weeks.
While at the the beach I saw a baby sea turtle hatch from the nest and make it out into the ocean during broad daylight. These turtles only come out at night but this brave little guy came out alone and made it all the way to the surf. Go him/her!
Dolphins were a regular on the surf as well. I saw them at least 4 times playing in the water. Had never seen this much wildlife on one vacation before.
The company down there was second to none as well and I couldn't have asked for more. I absolutely adore the group that I went with and I seriously have been blessed with great friends.
The week before I had been down in Greensboro for Catholic Heart Workcamp. There were about 200 teens there from all over the east coast giving up a week of their time to serve others. Jobs ranged from building wheelchair ramps, to working with disabled children through a horse therapy farm, to spending the day with older people affected by Alzheimer disease. I can't say that this week was the most comfortable for me (when is sleeping on a floor comfortable?) But I did get a lot out of it. I was working with a group of 18 year olds who were all going their various ways after graduating high school and they were amazing. I couldn't have asked for a better group of young adults to work with.
Hopefully I can get a picture of what we accompolished up here soon because it is truly impressive. :)

Up in the Air
So I just got done watching Up in the Air starring George Clooney. Great movie but really makes you think. People can become so obsessed with their careers that they lose sight of what makes them who they are, their relationships with other people. Whether it be friends, family, etc. these relationships form the foundation as to why we are the way we are and why we do the things we do.
The worst feeling is having one of these relationships taken away for one reason or another, death, distance, or disagreements. I recently had a disagreement (of sorts) with what I thought was one of my best friends. We haven't spoken in over two months. I defintly am upset about this. It's not an easy situation. I was put into a conflicting setting by circumstance and because of that made a decision I thought was the best for all parties involved at the time. I don't know what happened and wondering is driving me crazy. I have reached out numerous times and there isn't much else I can do if I'm being rejected on every attempt.
I didn't think nine years of friendship could end in one text message just by the choice of one person involved in the relationship. I thought that there would be more to it than that, but I guess technology has brought us to that point. In my opinion, it's a cowards way out and leaves the other person more hurt than necessary. If that was the intention, to hurt, then the text message serves that purpose. It leaves no opportunity for rebuttal and leaves the recipient more confused than needed.
I miss my friend but I'm not sure that I want to be friends with someone who can treat me like that and not bat an eyelash. Then again, do I fight for that relationship, effectively squashing any pride I may have had? If you don't take a stand for yourself, no one else will...

Cancer Sucks
So lately there have been tons of ways to donate to Susan G. Komen's Race for a Cure and Breast Cancer reasearch which is amazing! It's become the cool thing to do - donate to breast cancer research. What the media and general public tend to forget are all the other types of cancer out there...
It's cool to donate for Breast cancer because half the population has boobs... Save the Ta Ta's and whatnot. My mother is a breast cancer survivor so don't take this blog the wrong way. I think it is amazing the amount of support and research that has been done to save so many lives from being taken by such a horrible disease.
CANCER IS EVERYWHERE though. There are MANY DIFFERENT FORMS that affect EVERY ONE OF US in one way or another... Everyone knows someone who has been affected by this horrible disease. I really wish that the media would push to donate towards the American Cancer society so that ALL types of cancer victims can have the support they need.
Blood cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma are the least researched cancers out there. Lung cancer is the second highest killer among cancers. EVERYONE can be affected by these diseases. Cancer can affect all races and religons and ages.
I just ask that there becomes more awareness among all people about how this horrible disease destroys life.
If you are interested in helping to find a cure or just offer some support, please go to www.cancer.org to find out more information.

Redskins
I LOVE the Washington Redskins. No question about it, that time of year is my favorite. My little brother is a skins fan as well (mom and dad are raising him right :-) ). He got chosen to go to Chris Cooley's football camp from some raffle through the Redskin's organization. This camp has about 320 kids in it and and it is run by a ton of local football coaches. He did some defensive drills and then played 7 on 7 a the end. What was really cool though was the awards, typical camper of the day, that were awarded at the end of the day. There were three different group, seperated by age, and there was a camper of the day from each group. At the beginning of the day, Cooley explained what he was looking for from the camper of the day. The usual good sportsmanship, hard working, good attitude athlete. Each group had a child awarded, but the Cooley brought out another award.
It was the Phillip Post II award. Phillip POst was killed in a car accident last June and he was a lifetime Redskins fan. His family donated enough money to allow 17 kids to attend the camp for free. An amazing way to memorialize him if you ask me. I've attached a link so ya'll can check it out.

Imagine...
So I'm going to try this blogging thing, probably for the fourth time. Maybe this time I'll keep up with it. I always feel like I have things to share but I can't seem to take the time to write them down.
I was at church the other day and I heard this passage:
Romans 5: 1-5
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
The part that stuck out to me most was that hope does not dissapoint. It's amazing what people these days are going through, war, famine, genocide, illness, etc. Through all of this there are amazing people out there who are working to make the world a better place and to make a dfference. Their hope in spite of all the bad things in this world, in and of itself is inspiring.
What makes them want to work to make things better when it seems hopeless? If it seems like there is no end in sight, what's the point? The point is that there are people out there that are affected by the work that is being done. The mother who is able to feed her child for one more day. The man who is able to get work and support his family. The elderly who isnt lonely for that hour they are visited. The child that smiles because they are able to play and forget all their troubles.
Just think, if everyone gave one hour of their time or performed one act of kindness, imagine what this world would be like. It's the little battles that we need to look at and observe everyday. There IS kindness in this world and there are people who are willing to help, just open your eyes.
In everyone there is hope that this world can be better. Why else would people do the things they do? God gave us this hope and it will NEVER dissapoint.
Hope keeps me going.
